Rice Milk

June 30, 2015

Rice milk is a widely available commerical product used by many patients with allergies to nuts or soy and who are lactose intolerance. One cup contains 2 gms of unsaturated fat, 25 gms of carbohydrates, and one gram of protein. It contains no cholesterol and is a good source of vitamin B12.

Patients report that it is less dense than cow’s milk and has a sweet tang to it.

One issue that many clinicians have with rice products is that it is almost all of the domestic supply of rice has been genetically modified. In addition, some clinicians express reservations about high arsenic content of commercially available rice.
